Congratulations Chief John Brant!
Congratulations to John Brant! The City of LaGrange named Brant as the final candidate for the new LaGrange Fire Chief Tuesday evening. The announcement was made at the regular LaGrange City Council meeting this evening. Brant has been with the City of LaGrange for 23 years and has over 14 years of management experience. LaGrange Police Chief Lou Dekmar previously served as Public Safety Chief overseeing both LaGrange Police and LaGrange Fire but will now resume his duties solely as the LaGrange Police Chief. LaGrange emerged relatively unscathed by Hurricane Michael. All city services will be open today. Many of our friends in South Georgia and the Florida panhandle have suffered extreme damage. We will be sending electric crews south to assist in the recovery and looking for other ways to help. ... See more
Even though Hurricane Michael is expected to pass southeast of LaGrange, it is likely that we will experience tropical storm winds beginning later today and into the early morning hours. We expect trees to fall and electric power to be interrupted. High winds may limit the ability of electric crews to respond safely to power outages until Thursday morning after the storm has passed. During widespread outages, the city crews have to prioritize the main power lines and then work into the neighborhoods. Please be patient and know that your city staff are working hard to clear debris and restore power. Please follow the city’s electric utility on Facebook—City of LaGrange Utility and City of LaGrange Government—for updates. The city crews don’t monitor email or Facebook messages outside of normal business hours, but they will post updates periodically. The city’s utility outage number is 706-883-2130. If there are widespread outages, please know that the city crews are working. If your neighbors have power and you don’t, or if you have a utility emergency like a gas leak please call. Remember to call 911 for medical emergencies. Please do not contact us through Facebook or by email since these messages are not monitored outside normal business hours. https://harris.lagrange-ga.org/utilitydocuments/WhattoDoWhenthePowerGoesOut.pdf ... There was a bad accident on New Franklin Road this morning north of WalMart. The driver hit a pole causing loss of power. City crews are working on restoration and estimate an hour to restore power.
Congratulations to the LaGrange Fire Department. Today, the department received accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Out of approximately 30,000 fire departments in the nation less than 250 are accredited, and LaGrange is now one of only ten departments in Georgia to achieve this standard of excellence. ... See more
